Brown on Coat

I know about putting Kelp in their food can help with the black coats not turning brown. Is there anything else you do? I thought there was a past post - and I could not find it.
Thank you,
Connie

Interesting - Teddy tends to turn a bit brownish in the summer - I thought it was just from the sun cause in the winter, he's back to black. I didn't know you could give them something to stop it.

It is from the sun. I used to own a black Clydesdale that would brown out and dapple in the summer. People that show black horses will only let them outside at night so their coats don't get bleached out. I'm not a fan of taking such measures, but whatever :) I haven't heard of anything that can prevent it, other than coating them or keeping them indoors though...

Some of the "finishing sprays" have sunscreen in them. Ice on Ice does and ours stay black black. However, they also don't like being in the sun AT ALL once it's over about 70.

Cole's tail feathers will lighten a touch at times...and that's the place I tend to skimp on the Ice on Ice. So maybe it really does work?

It sure works for keeping them all mat free.
