all right.....I have been quiet on this board lately on purpose.( If you are referring to me Louann, say so, I want to know what I accomplished)) ...but let me see if I can make sense of this whole thread...The 'rocket science' statement hacked off alot of people who feel that much more is put into a breeding program....point well taken.. I have the greatest respect for long time breeders who have accumulated tons of knowledge...
But....I think 'socials' point initially was about classifying breeders...and more to the point 'who' singly or as a group, is in charge of putting these labels on.....that I think was the point of the thread... Now don't jump up and say "they put it on themselves" because many times they dont'....labels are put on breeders by gossip, untrue accusations, and other things....each one should decide for themselves after "PERSONAL" investigation...if you are so interested.....that's it

Yes, Julie..that was the point of her post! EXACTLY. To follow up on her post about how the criteria set out by the NCA is "wrong" because she doesn't want to have to join clubs or follow the "normal" practices that would allow her to fit into the classification of being a responsible breeder. She wants a short cut...and sadly, there are no shortcuts. If you don't want to learn about the breed, you don't want to learn about the breed..but trying to discredit acceptable practices is a very poor way to achieve that. I personally don't care if she stays on the forum or not, but I won't be able to stand back and watch without speaking, because there are lots of novices on this board who come her actually WANTING information, and if it's left to people like her to educate..the breed is in trouble.

Um...Julie...Lou Ann was not speaking about you. If you read her post right, what she meant was Social has become very quiet because she succeeded in starting what she set out to do!

K, seriously, Julie and Lou Ann..if you guys need to duke it out..there are other places you can do that cuz it really doesn't have anything to do with this thread...and will only cause the thread to get closed.

I've been quiet because my mind is so boggled I don't know what to think. I'm not good at reading ppl and 'meat world' reality was so different than online. I could apologize for apologizing but might have to apologize for that too. I am watching all this trying to learn.

I have learned a lot from all the discussions. It helps to have a variety of viewpoints. If the discussion gets heated because ppl are passionate about the topic, so be it.

I think it is 110% totally legitimate that breeding becomes a heated topic. It takes a while to be exposed to different segments of the dog world to understand for a newbie.

Autism precludes the autie's understanding anybody's motivations so I am focused on learning the facts about all things Newfs. When posters are mature and sincere and answer questions with facts and their experience, it is really helpful.

Learning and doing right by my Newf is all I have ever set out to accomplish. Thanks goodness for the "search" feature. Thank you to everybody posting accurate info.

My point was that it is ridiculous that we have to be told how to respond to a particular poster that most definitely continues to "stir the pot." It is a shame that many of the more knowledgeable folks (I am not speaking of the OP, here) appear to not be responding as much because if they say anything that comes off as argumentative in any way, they are told to back off, the thread is locked or we are all reminded of the rules. I come on here to get valuable information from folks that have been involved with this breed for years, the folks that have not taken any short cuts. I do not want that to change, but it will if real discussions (which may, at times, be heated) cannot be had on any given topic.

Julie...as others have said, including LA, she wasn't talking about you.

However, you and LA obviously don't see eye to eye on some things, and the "argument" keeps popping up all over the place. I've seen it here, and on FB.

As Cindy said...you know there's a place where you two can discuss your different views openly. Say what you want and she can do the same. This is NOT the place. Go there, unblock one another and try to clear things up. It's an opportunity for you to express how you feel and why.

That was my point too. :)

How is one to learn if they cannot question what they do not understand or have the ability to at least see the other viewpoint to see where the person is coming from? You don't have to agree with the other viewpoint all of the time, yet it helps to give one perspective into what others are thinking.... <ack> .. I'm getting all philosophical now :)
