Boston BARF

We now live in the USA and having moved from Scotland and Ireland before that. Since arriving we're finding the cost of raw feeding here massively higher than it was at home and the quality of meat not so good. we've had lots of upset tummies, pooping and vomiting issues and I think its the treatment of the meat versus what they have always been used to. Charlie used to eat lamb due to allergies but we just cannot justify the cost of it here.

Does anyone have any good resources for BARF supplies which may prove more cost efficient and have less negative effects on the pups? at present i'm close to going back to Orijen and may even trial them on it and see how it goes

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat you are, raw is too expensive to feed where I live. I can get good quality meat from sustainable farmers that don't use growth hormones, pesticides or antibiotic, but that would cost me over 100.00 a week. I live very close to NYC and the prices are outrageous. I know many people advise against it, but I feed some raw bones, livers, tripe and chicken and supplement with a good holistic kibble. I shop the local markets and stock up on what's on sale. Good luck, I know how hard it is when you want to feed the best diet but the cost is too prohibiting.

There is a raw coop based in Nashua, NH that delivers to a lot of locations around. We had good luck with them. There are also a lot of organic farms up here. If you visit the farmer's market, you may be able to ask about sourcing organ meats and bone directly since they normally don't sell those. Maybe you could get a good price.

Feel free to PM me if you want more details or info. I live just over the border not too far from you.

thank you for the help guys. its used to cost us like $100 a month to feed great lamb back in ireland for charlie and prob $50 a month for beef and chicken for Tara but now we'd be looking at 100 a week and it still doesn't seem to be the best quality. will keep trying but may have to go back to Orijen :(

We were feeding Orijen to ours before we switched to raw and originally thought we were saving money with the switch. Now I am not so sure but there is at least one other side benefit that will keep us feeding raw...

The sheer quantity of poop is so much smaller while feeding raw. We have 3 big dogs and before we accumulated a large amount of the smelly stuff. Since we have been on raw the quantity is significantly less and hardly smells at all.
