Bladder Stones & Special Diet

Our beloved Cozy had bladder stones a while back, and they were completey dissolved through a diet of ONLY Prescription Diet S/D (No surgury - HOORAY!).

The vet, and indeed even Science Diet claims that she must now stay on a special diet of Prescription Diet C/D for the rest of her life. This diet is supposed to keep her from getting stones again, as she is "succeptable" (sp?).

While it seems to work, has anyone else heard of this? I question anything that says "you must buy our product for the rest of your life", even if it does seem to work wonderfully.

GAD, I wouldn't mess around with something like stones. If the diet works and she does well on it, I'd stick with it. What if you try to switch her to something else and the stones develop again? They might not dissolve so readily a 2nd time! We're dealing with a goat, now, with bladder problems and I WISH they had a diet like that for her. She's on a urine acidifier, which she HATES, and might be on that for life. Try giving a GOAT meds 2x a day, as they fight you! :))

Yeah, I certainly have no plans of chnging, as she likes the food and it seems to work.

I'm just naturally cynical I guess.

Thanks!
