Back to Basics VS. Wysong ?

I've got a new pup and the breeder's food is running out. I'm going to probably buy "Back to Basics" or "Wysong" as her primary food.

I've heard and read good things about both brands but I was wondering if anyone has actually ever tried both and had any first hand comparitive experiences they could share.

Thanks

Both brands are used by people who post here. They're both good. You want to keep the protein around 23 and the fat about 12.

Just wondering... since I'm in the deep black hole of "what to feed your dog" too... for what reasons did you pick Back to Basics and Wysong?

I've been looking at ALL the "ultra premium" commercial dog foods out there and still am having trouble finding one I'm happy with. So far the ones I've been really looking at are Innova, Wellness, and Natural Balance (might only be in CA right now) but keep trying to find out more info on other brands.

Thanks,
Caroline

Caroanne:

I've spoken to a dozen breeders (in various areas of the country) over the last 6 months. As we searched for our current pup, I asked the breeders questions about premium dog foods and got a lot of different opinions and suggestions including "Innova" (one of your choices). About half the breeders thought that a good food, purchased locally would be just fine..... I was surprised that the majority of breeders were not on the "super premium dog food" band wagon. Irregardless I only have the one dog currently and I'd like to do the best for her ..... especially during her most formulative 1st year.

I also read a lot of articles, intenet newf owner opinions and manufacturers info on the different premium foods. The three foods I settled on were Back to Basics, Wysong, and Innova..... All of these are mail order for me so that did'nt help. I think the advertising for Innova is a little less personal (compared to the other two)..... so that's how I settled on the two brands I posted.

It was very interesting to see both brands get mentioned on your other forum question. In fact that was the reason I decided to post my question. I'm contemplating buying a small portion of both brands and letting Angel's taste budds do the decision making.

I guess I'm starting to really care about this little (26lbs/9wk) fur ball.

I'm still interested hearing if anyone else has any opinions on this comparison.

Thanks,
EK

I tried Innova once and my girls got the runs and didn't clear up until I switched them to Bil Jac

As far as letting them "choose" their food. I tried that once with Sam. I put her food in one bowl and another food in a bowl right next to it. I thought she would sniff and choose which she liked the best. WRONG She ate from one then the other. Back and forth, back and forth. So I thought "She is such a pig I bet Panda would be more picky" So I did the same for Panda and She did the SAME thing Sam did. So much for that experiment.

Hi there i have fed the Wysong Synorgen for many years, the pups have SLOW growth on it, and thrive, healthy coats bright eyes, just all around good energy, i highly recommend the wysong dog food and my puppy buyers are required to feed it also, ESPECIALLY the males.

Return the growth, and ask for the synorgen! do not use the growth, or if you have it and cant trade it in, wait to feed it. right now you need a low protein food and the synorgen is perfect for my guys, my male is only 37 pounds right now at 17 weeks, but he does have huge bone and feet, so i am not worried that he does not fit in with some of the guestimated weight tables, many dogs weights vary becouse of the food we feed, if the growth is slowed down, the front legs wont have as much trouble with bone growing to fast that the muscle cant attach, this leads to pano, it is a painful growth spurt that can be diagnosed by a vet.
do go get the synorgen, i feed at 17 weeks one cup and one fourth, three times a day, up to 16 weeks he got one cup three times a day, i also put 3 heaping tablespoons yogurt, plain not the light, on two of his meals each day, vit C and bee pollen and the GL and JFlex

Hi there, i prefer the Synorgon to the maintenance formula, it is corn free.
they maintain proper weight much better on the Synorgon, plus it is more natural than the maintenance.
hope this helps.

I normally go by this rule for myself, 10 pounds over the age they are in months, thus, 9 months 100 pounds.
this is dependant on how large their bone mass is, and how quickly they mature, slow is better, and the BIGGEST most important, how easy you can feel each rib,the whole rib individually without a layer of fat as Kooch has posted elsewhere here.
