Any suggestions on a brand of food?

When I got my pup the breeder was feeding Purina Large Breed puppy food. I kept her on that for a while but then changed to IAMS large breed puppy food (which costs alot more) but is it really worth it. I get so many mixed messages, is one really that much better than another or not?

We feed Eukanuba Adult Maintenance.

I think there IS a large difference.

I've had multiple vets tell me to feed only "quality" foods.

Whether or not they're all just horse lips, I can't say for certain, but I did do some research and we like this brand best.

YMMV.

I think there is a difference, too. We feed ours Eukanuba Large Breed (Adult) - this is what our vet recommends, and while the grocery store variety is "okay" (his word), the others are better formulated.

It was suggested at the beginning to feed Kodi Eukanuba large breed puppy and now we've switched over to Eukanuba large breed adult. The Iams large breed adult has more protein than the Eukanuba large breed adult. Kodi will be 7mths old and the vet advised us that he didn't need the higher percentage of protein because it can cause bone growth problems, which we just found out after extensive x-rays.

I highly recommend Wysong the Synorgon brand.
i do not believe the large breed formulas are as good as some of the other foods out there, look at the protein and fat levels, not much difference, just like the adding of glucosamine, i believe the marketing gimics to have "catchy" fad phrases are causing so many different types of food out there for wich many pets will pay the price in time.
i have heard many reports that eukanuba and other brands have changed formulas so often it makes your head spin, and also many reported bloat in the latest eukanuba change of formula.
just my humble opinion, not meant to offend.

I really don't think there is any one BEST food. You have to find what your dog does well on, and that's not necessarily determined by price. I use Blue Seal, $20.56 including tax for 50 lbs. And I lost my last 5 Newfs at 10 1/2, 11 1/2, 12, 13 1/2 and 14 1/2 yrs old. Your breeder should be a good resource, though, as they know what their line has done well on. You may have to try different foods, though, to find what's best for your pup.

Food is something we look at often. Up until recently, we were feeding the girls Nature's Recipe Group Specific "Working Dog Formula".

We were very happy with it for awhile. However, it became increasingly difficult to find, and when Kira came to us, she always seemed to have a "rumbly" tummy.

We switched about 2 months ago to Nutro. Kira is eating Nutro's Natural Choice Lamb & Rice formula for adult dogs. Since she's been on this food, her tummy has calmed down and her stools are consistantly "well formed".

Cora is eating Nutro's Natural Choice Weight Management for Large Breeds. She is doing very well on this as well.

Our main rule of thumb in selecting a food for our girls is to avoid anything that has ground corn in it. Corn is not digestible and just goes "straight" through!

I have tried many of the pricey "top of the line" dog foods, Nutro and Nature's Recipe. They all tend to give Sara a very loose stool, so I tried Bill Jack Select and all stools are fine. The girls seem to eat it very well. Does anyone else feed Bill Jack. I also add 1 table spoon of oil to their food and a tad bit of canned dog food. They get a vitamin every morning as well as arthritis medication and their soloxine for low thyroid. Of course they get a biscut after each meal. Funny how they never fail to remind me if I forget their biscuts. One time 20 minutes after feeding them I saw Sara and Sam (we didn't have Panda) sitting and looking at the closet where the biscuts are kept. I suddenly remembered "biscuts". After that both girls we for their after meal nap
