Yes, she is our mentor. And Bekah will only be going through the Junior classes for kids. And she doesnt need to travel. The AKC club here will teach her here and hold shows here and a few hours away once or twice a year. They start them off slow and give them a taste of what its really like

Good luck and enjoy...I really enjoy showing, I handle our own dogs and have done surprisingly well, getting Lukey his Championship quite quickly. I love newfie shows, but i found All Breed Shows extremely confusing at first. So many different levels and so many times in and out of the ring. even with my Mentor and Showing buddies i would still end up in a tangle, especially with showing two on the same day. But I love it and have a lot of fun. I am sure your Daughter will enjoy it too

I agree and was only going to add that you might try and join your local all breed kennel club, but it looks like you already did. While we had Newf mentors to show us how to groom, what judges to enter under, etc., for showing in conformation; our all breed club boasts many conformation folks that are always ready to offer tips and suggestions at our (practically free) conformation classes. I also take lessons from a private trainer/handler (highly recommended by my all breed club).

I would venture to say there there is at least 500 years of conformation & performance experience (all told) among our membership. We have free obedience/conformation classes over the summer, but they are held outdoors, so we don't attend during the hot and humid part of summer. Fall and winter, our classes are indoors and there is a nominal fee for building rental. Our all breed club hosts seminars, hosts a fun match and a show each year, you can really learn a lot volunteering as a steward. We host a Meet the Breeds event, all of our Newfs participate in the AKC Ambassador program - they help teach bite prevention to second graders in our county. We have guest speakers at our meetings covering all sorts of topics. It is definitely worth our $25 (per year) membership.

Sometimes you need to wait until your dog matures, & sometimes you'll have a Newf you can enter as a youngster. We waited until our first boy was 18 months old to start showing him, and truth is, we weren't going to show him at all until some people told us that we should and they contacted our breeder. It's was almost like being tattled on (in a good way), lol.
Our second Newf, although he could probably finish, doesn't like the show ring or any ring at all, for that matter, so personality & and training an effective performer counts for a lot, too. Moby (#3) is a work in progress, but looks very promising so far.

If you have a limited registration, your breeder has to lift that before you start showing, but I'm sure she knows that.

Something I learned recently, dogs that are spayed or neutered can be shown in Jr's at AKC events. This is a great tool for those that want to compete in Jr's but don't want the issues related to having an intact dog to deal with. Also as a breeder, this is an option for placing a dog not intended for breeding with full registration to a Jr show home.

I don't know if my intact Frenchie, who my nephew is using for Jr's, will think this is great news but myself and my sister-in-law think it's awesome!

I just learned that too! But, the breeder doesnt want her spayed till she is at least 18 months because she said she needs to fully develop. She believes it's better for their health. Fine with me
