I am just curious. How many Newf Netters show their dogs?
Do you show both AKC and UKC? Obedience and conformations? What about water trials, cart work and agility or tracking?

many people snub the UKC
i like it becouse they do not allow overtrimming or overgrooming of our newfs.
the only places we are allowed to trim is the ears, and the feet, and they are shown in their natural coat, that is to me very very important.
also our all breed club has UKC obedience matches all year round, so many here do both AKC and UKC obedience and conformation.
i go whenever i can, and this spring i hope to hit the INT UCI shows in minnesota.
Water trials are a desire of mine but are a long haul so again, it comes down to time and availability and funds, tracking we do on our own, have not yet gone for the official title but that to is a desire of mine, but i am told the matches are again a very long drive.
carting, well i have the cart, have had it a very long time, maybe it is time to fill the tires and dust it off.
;)

We are just getting started in conformation showing. So far it has been fun. I have been to three shows with Boo now, and have a bunch pencilled in for March and April trying to be prepared for Nationals.

My dogs swim in the summer a lot. But no offical titles there yet, maybe this summer will be our year. But it does come down to what SAR said, location, time and money.

We have shown our girl a few dozen times now over 2 1/2 years. A real learning experience. We have only shown our boy a few times since he needed lots of maturation. Our girl has 7 points and our boy 3. In the Midwest, most of our competition involves pro handlers or longtime experienced breeder-handlers. We show for fun and experience and go back to show sites that we particularly enjoyed.

As we're planning to breed (any day now), we likely won't show again until late summer or Fall. But, we do like it and take the attitude that it is primarily a family activity. If we win something now and then, that's a nice bonus. Without having "paid our dues" in the show ring, we wouldn't have learned enough to justify trying our hand at breeding, not to mention meeting potential stud dog owners.

Above all, have fun. If it's not fun, why bother?

Cheers,

Phil

I have my hands in a little of everything. Lana's the first newf I've taken into conformation. I haven't been in conformation ring for awhile. I'm not as enthused about conformation ..... have to do it to work toward a VN. I do obedience, draft, water, and tracking. I dabble in agility, now rally, therapy work. It depends on the dog. Some may have physical limitations, etc that preclude them from doing certain things.

We show in conformation mainly. My daughter has put CDs on a couple dogs and trained one for his water titles.

I have 4 newfs and a schipperke, and while 1 newf and the schip are pups, they are both destined for the show ring for conformation and obedience.
Teh newf pup will also be trained for water & draft work. My husband is talking about maybe doing agility with the schip.

Of my 3 adult newfs, all 3 have been shown in the obedience rings and have CGC certificates. We show in the breed ring, Water wrok, Draft work and advances obedeince.
