Hi all as you know Frank is a fussy what not and I am struggling to find a dry food he really likes that suits his digestive system. He loved the grain free Applaws but his bottom end did not, james wellbeloved sorted the bottom troubles out but he doesn't like it very much. Have been thinking of Acana large breed pup/junior but was wondering if you had any experience of this food and whether it's likely to be too rich for him again. Some of the adult Acana look fantastic but at only 13 months is this to soon for an adult food? Thanks all.

More will chime in but Newfs should not be on puppy food. My Murphy and Monty both ate grain free Acana and did excellent. Orijen had a little too much protein for their big ole tummies.

Most breeders over here recommend going straight to adult food, not puppy food. The Calcium/Phosphorus ratio should be somewhere around 1.3 to 1.0 I think. Hopefully someone else will correct me if I am wrong. You don't want a high Protein level either.

I've used Acana Duck and Chicken but did not start the grain free until were up around 2 yrs old. Have to check calcium/phospherous levels and grain free was little high for pup.

Thanks guys I have ordered the Acana large breed adult....this is not a grain free will wait until a little older to try the Pacifica....calcium levels and phosphorous levels look good just hope the fussy spoilt brat likes it and it agrees with him. Can't wait for it to arrive how sad getting so excited about a dry food must be going Newf nuts.

How's ACANA working out for you? My 8 month old Newfie puppy keeps getting soft stool. I feed her Wellness but want to switch to Acana. I was thinking Pacifica. Any suggestions? She seems to get soft stool as soon as we try something new or different, I feel bad because I'm never sure if the new treats will upset her.
Also, any idea how much protein would be good for her. All the bags say "crude protein no less than _____%" It seems to me that if I give her treats with high protein her stool gets even softer.

I switched Izzy (almost 11 years old) to Acana last year. She was dribbling urine a lot after she ate with the Science Diet we had her on.

I tried the Acana Pacifica which I think I saw Peter Maniate recommending for Newfs, but she dribbled with that too--only after eating but she'd go to sleep and dribble in her sleep. Newf urine dribbling after meals is more like a pool.

There was nothing wrong with her according to the vet so then we switched her to Acana Ranchlands and she's been fine ever since. I'm not sure if it was the salt or the preservatives in the other foods that bothered her but she's been stable for months and able to hold her water normally on Ranchlands.

So there you go, my experience with the food.

Thank you

Thank you for your response. I've been reading a lot about Acana and wondered if the Pacifica has all the nutrition my puppy needs. I'm just now finding out she's not very tolerant to protein... It causes her soft stool. So, because Acana is high in protein I've chosen to go with NutriSource and her stool has harden.
