Hi! I am new to the site and absolutely love it. I am so glad that there are so many Newfy lovers out there. Hopefully you can help me. My dog Bear has a dandruff problem on his back. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to get rid of this- rather than the traditional "wait and see" method. Please help!

Hi Jabear and welcome to newf net. Dandruff can be caused by many things. One thing you may try is adding oil to his food. Fish oil is the best. You can give this tablet form or you can feed your newf salmon or mackeral. You can add a veggie oil to the food also, but remember to account for the extra callories or you will end up with an overweight newf. What kind of food are you feeding? Food can cause it also.

When you shampoo are you getting all the soap out? Shampoo residue can cause "dandruff" as well as a number of skin problem.

You could try hot oil treatments, but it is best the treat it from the inside out

Again welcome and please post some photo

Welcome Jabear.. Jeannie is right.. you need to treat it from the inside out.. I to give Murphy fish oil.. it is a liquid Omega 3/6..and once a week I give him Sardines packed in olive oil..never had a dandruff problem
