How do you get your newf to settle down in the car on long trips?

Having a challenge with my one newf. Jasmine refuses to sit or lay down on a car ride. When we are going 5-10 minutes away, this is ok, but when we go to beach on our annual trip, its a 4-5 hour car ride. We stop every 1.5 hours, but I'm still uncomfortable with her standing the entire way...

Anyone been using Golden Paste with your newfs? We just started, but wondering what amount I should work up to? Currently only doing 1/4 tsp 2x a day. Thanks.

    Another TPLO :-(

Yesterday the orthopedist confirmed my fears. Jasmine's issues getting up are due to a cruciate injury. TPLO is likely inevitable, but for now, we are going to start with PT. I can't catch a break. I'm super worried about the surgery, though...because Jasmine has EPI and is in remission with...

    I'm baaack...

I'm not really new...I've been a member here since 2002, however....I've been very absent over the last few years, but vowed to be back on this forum as I feel I get the best input here vs. anywhere else. I have two "health challenged" newfs - Penny is my brown, and Jasmine is my black. i...

    Health Issues

I'm posting here, because I'm not sure where else to post. I seem to not be able to catch a break with my two girls....I keep hoping that the latest malady will be the last, but then something else happens. Here's my timeline: November, 2010 - Penny (1yo at this time) has reaction to...

    Clipper Recommendations?

My Wahl clippers died, so looking to see what I should replace them with. So many to choose from! I don't use for shaving, just trimming and working through matted sections in the rear at times....appreciate any input. I asked on Facebook, and was yelled at by groomers telling me not to...

    Partially Torn CCL (ACL?)

SO, my Beautiful Brown Newf, Penny, had shoulder surgery about a month ago for mineralizations in the shoulder tendon, She was healing nicely, down to her last 2 PTs, when all of a sudden, on Sunday, she preferred sitting to standing, and was having trouble with her back end. Emergency vet...

Sudden Rear Leg Lameness after long car ride

Just arrived to our vacation house in the Outer Banks, and after 6 hours in the car where Jasmine insisted on standing most of the way, she is now lame in her back right leg, not wanting to put any weight on it. I'm looking for a vet here who can see us on a Sunday, but meanwhile, looking for...

Limping - nothing swollen or hurting

Penny ran down a steep embankment when we were hiking 10 days ago, and must have twisted something, because she immediately did not want to put weight on her front left paw. She had to walk an additional 1/3 mile (limping) to get back to the car. Nothing was swollen or hurting as I felt up...

White Flakes and LOTS of shedding

Jasmine has lots and lots of white flakes (looks like dead skin) and she's shedding a tremendous amount. She gets Salmon Oil, Coconut Oil, Vegetable Oil and Omega Fatty Acids in her food, and we've bathed her with an anti-bacterial / anti-fungal shampoo, but the problem seems to be getting...

    Megaesophagus

    GERD - Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease

Anyone heard of this / treating a newf for it? Because nothing can ever be easy....my Jasmine (the one with EPI) has been doing this reverse sneezing / vomit foam thing. When we first took her in, they diagnosed her with pneumonia and treated her for about a month with Doxy. She seemed fine...

    Colon Polyps?

Anyone had to deal with Colon Polyps in a newf?? Penny has been having mucus and blood in her poop, and the more research I do, the more it sounds like polyps. Haven't gotten a diagnosis from the vet as of yet. I usually like to go in knowing the right questions to ask and telling them what...

Wow. It's been 7 months. Penny is FINALLY off all Prednisone and Cyclosporine and getting somewhat back to normal. Of course she needs to lose weight (thank you, prednisone). But since being off the Pred 3 weeks ago, she's put herself on a diet and has lost about 8 lbs. She has about 15 to...
