I don't know if many of you remember me since I haven't signed on to Newf Net for so long ... it's probably been a year and a half or so. I stopped being a regular when my sweet Merrick passed on ... I just couldn't manage to get myself to log in after that. But on a whim I thought I would drop...
We said goodbye to our sweet boy Merrick today. He had the sweetest disposition of any dog I have known. I wish he could have stayed with us longer but I am very grateful for the time we had.
RIP Merrick 08/04/2006-02/15/2010
This morning when I got up to let the dogs out I could tell something was not right with Merrick. Rather than the usual exuberant greeting, he looked up listlessly and lay his head right back down. Rather than his usual voracious appetite he ate only a little and he didn't even really want to...
I was clearing out my camera's storage card and came across this pic of one of my all-time favorite newfs. Just curious if you know who he is. Hint: I took this picture at the Rhode Island Nationals last year.
Has anyone read this one? It's about Morie Sawataishi, the man who is credited with saving the Akita breed. I found the book to be very interesting and engaging.
My family recently found these 100+ year old articles about Dan Boyington, who was my great-great grandfather. (I had never heard of him before this.) The articles describe his then-unique methods for training ("educating") mules and horses, which could easily be applied to dogs too. His...
Is anyone else paying attention to all the buzz about 2012? Just curious what you all think about it. I am not necessarily a believer, but the number of convergences around that date is chilling. It's Armageddon week on the history channel -- very uplifting stuff. ;)
DEAF WIFE
A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid.
Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem.
The Doctor told him there is a simple formal test the husband could perform...
Here is an interesting video page with pictorial examples to help with reading dog body language.

P.S. It looks like Sue M already posted this inside another thread, but I thought it deserves a thread of its own in case folks...
When we were getting ready to take Mr. Belvedere home, he bolted out the front door. My hubby had parked his truck out front and left the front passenger door open so we could load him in. At first we thought he was running out into the road and shouted "No!". He was not going for the road...
A few days ago I finally decided to weed the area beneath our Rose of Sharon, which is located at the corner of our front yard. Our house is on a corner lot at a fairly busy intersection, so imagine my surprise when I remove a large clump of dried leaves to find a nest of bunnies underneath it...
We took the boys swimming today. Zatara loves to swim, but Merrick prefers to keep all fours on solid ground.
We took them to the lake's public access, so lots of boats and people were coming and going.
This girl saw the dogs from a distance and paddled over to greet them.
We kept...
My grandpuppy Mr. Belvedere is spending the weekend with us. Here he is with ears a-flapping, Floyd-style.
Here is Zatara, chilling out in the back yard.
Zatara and Merrick rough-housing with each other. It's quite a scary sight but it's all in fun.
Mr. B, waiting for us to get...
I am in the 98% group. I'm curious how others do.

Worried about Merrick - UPDATE (NOT GOOD NEWS)
This evening I awoke to a pounding sound and thought someone might be knocking on the door. As soon as I was alert enough to realize what woke me up, the sound stopped, so I'm not exactly sure what I heard. The hubby went downstairs to...
