What would you have done if you were me

I'm dying of curiosity to know what the members here would have done in my shoes.

This morning I was walking 3 small bording dogs (2 Bichons and a Coton). Halfway up my street a guy from across the street comes out with a dog that he boards for friends' of his. We start walking together but at the end of the street we go the opposite way. On my way back he too was coming from the other direction and I noticed the dog had pood on someone's lawn. It was a corner house and the dog did her business on the side grass. I also noticed that he didn't pick it up. As he came to me I very diplomatically asked if he wanted a bag. His response was "no not today". He was saying he's not picking up today and he also told me the owner's of the dog gave him a whole roll of bags (which of course he wasn't carrying). I pointed out to him that there's a $1,000 fine here for not cleaning it up. He didn't respond. We continued down our street and I was slightly ahead of him and low and behold when we got to his house there is a small patch of grass in front and one of the Bichons decided to do his business on it. The odds of something like this happening have got to be one in a million.

So do you leave your dog's poo to teach him a lesson? Do you say not today I'm not picking up? I will post what I did after I see some responses. I'm very curious to see what some of you would have done.

Pick it up. Two wrongs don't make a right. What's more, you set an example for anyone who might be watching and...you don't risk that fine!!!

No - pick it up.... don't 'stoop' to his level.... I have a name for him... but I don't think I can say it here!!!

Good point Jane. I would like to point out that 95% of the people in my neighbourhood that have dogs don't even walk them. They live in their backyards. Of the 5% that do walk them only 2% clean up after them. I am always getting blamed for poo on the lawns because I'm the only one they see walking dogs.

I would pick up the poop from his lawn ... but I would have (and I have done it before) picked up the poo he left behind, and dropped it on his front step with a note saying: "I noticed you 'forgot' to pick this up. Wouldn't want people to think you are a 'crappy' neighbour."

I have done it before, I had a neighbour who wouldn't pick up their dogs poop, so if I noticed it on our walks, I bagged it and left it with a note on her front step". It took about 10 poop drop-offs, but she started to bag her dogs crap!

I did pick it up because I would not stoop to his level and I made of point of saying to him "lucky for you today is a poo pick up day for me as every day is". I also bought a lottery ticket because I just blown away at the odds of this happening.

Jen I had the same problem. Two doors down her dog is peeing on my front porch and pooing on my front lawn. She doesn't believe in cleaning it. Finally I told her outright that the next time I see her dog pooing on my lawn I'm going to collect the poo from my two Newfs for the entire day and deposit it on her front steps. I haven't seen her dog poo on my lawn in some time now.

Oh, absolutely- pick it up and don't stoop to his level.

But when you get home, put the poop in a paper bag. Then, later that night, go back, put the poop-filled bag on his porch, light it on fire, ring his doorbell, and run to a place where you can watch him try to stamp it out.

(Disclaimer: only kidding. Taking the high road is always the best.)

Buy a sturdy trash can with a tight fitting lid. Put in a trash can liner. Everyday, deposit your baggies in it. When you get blamed, kindly show them the evidence.

The proof is in the "pudding" so to speak.

Bob I love your idea but I would be the one to get caught. He'd know for sure.

Jane just weeks after I moved in here a woman was on her front step as I walked by with dogs and she said to me "I've got my eye on you". I said honey you can have both eyes on me because I'm not like the pigs in this neighbourhood, I clean up after my dogs. I see this woman all the time now (in fact today she walked by me) and she always says hello. I make a big production of lifting the bags in the air before cleaning the poo and anyone who's watching always sees me carrying bags with poo. Though I do like you thinking about the proof in the pudding. Imagine having a neighbour's dog actually come up on your front porch and pee all over it. There's also a leash law here and a $255 fine if you are caught with your dog off leash. It's maddening to be blamed for something I never do (leave it on the lawns). Though I have noticed that most people here now realize I clean it and they've become very nice to me.

I see your point as well Angela but here it's a really big issue. I am so sick of finding and having to clean up poo on my front lawn from those that don't. It really does ruin it for people like me who do clean up and I'm fed up with it. Not seeing it happen is one thing but actually seeing it I'm sorry I think it warranted a remark. I did offer the bag first.

I would have picked it up.

I would have gone back and picked his up as well. And deposited it in his own yard.
